To my team,
I would like to say how extremely proud I am of you for the heart and the determination you've shown this cross country season. I want you to know that it takes a special kind of person to show up to practice everyday even in Summer training to withstand a grueling training regimen - and continue to come back for more. Which is one of the many reasons why I am proud to call you my squad. Rather you are a novice runner or a seasoned veteran in the sport: being a dedicated member of this team separates you from your classmates as being the toughest kid in school. For what we do, others do as a form or punishment, we do it as a form of peace with one’s self.
Your mindset is unmatched. The training you’ve been through alone has shaped your mind whether you realize it or not, to be able to withstand whatever comes your way in this world.

Cross Country is not just about the medals, trophies and unreal PR’s (even though all of that is beyond nice); It’s also about the drive and the will to keep going when every part of your body wants to give up.

One of the highest honors a runner can have in Cross Country is to hold the title of Most Valuable Runner. This person is someone who displays a certain type of drive that is unparalleled. When everyone gets in their set miles, this person is determined to get one more. Or even ask to get another rep of a repetitive power run with the look of joy and satisfaction. Displaying that heart not only at practice, but also in the meets. Pushing themselves to the limit each and every practice giving 110 percent, 100 percent of the time.
Most Valuable Runner:
Cody Stewart
Being able to help steer this ship to success is a rare occurrence as Team Caption for that title isn’t given out every year. But when it does, it finds itself perched on the shoulders of an individual that has shown great leadership throughout the years and the willingness to go Above and Beyond the call of duty for the success of their team. This next and final award is the highest honor I’m able to bestow upon a runner. Making this person the third recipient to receive this senior award.
Above and Beyond Recipient:
Sally Perez
Thank You, Sally Perez!
Words could never truly capture how deeply I love this incredible group of passionate athletes. Becoming a cross country coach is something I never imagined for myself—but after 20 years as a competitive runner, it’s been the most rewarding chapter yet.
This team has ignited a new kind of passion in me—a fire fueled by their unmatched drive, untapped potential, and unwavering spirit. The dedication and heart these kids have shown all season have been nothing short of extraordinary and endlessly inspiring.
As our cross country season comes to a close, I’m filled with pride, gratitude, and excitement for what’s still to come. Until next time—keep running with heart.
Coach Weekley
On October 25, 2025, the Monticello Billies Cross Country team didn't just host the annual SEACC All-Conference Championships at the Monticello Sports Complex—they conquered it. Under the passionate guidance of Coach Brandon Weekley, the very air of the course seemed to inspire the athletes, resulting in a remarkable feat: every single runner achieved a personal best time in every division.
Though small in number, the Billies ran with a giant's spirit. In the junior divisions, individual brilliance shone brightly. Bella Perez flew through the two-mile course with a personal record of 14:15, claiming a stunning 2nd place among 35 competitors. Matching her fire was Gavin Prince, who blazed across the finish line in 12:33 to also seize 2nd place out of 34.
The senior girls battled fiercely to earn a triumphant 3rd place finish against 13 other teams. Liyah Young led the charge, securing 4th place overall in the 5K with a time of 22:58, closely followed by the phenomenal Sally Perez, who took 5th place in 23:29.
The senior boys closed the day with tremendous power, securing a magnificent 2nd place finish against 13 teams. Cody Stewart paced the team with a leading time of 18:19, claiming 4th place. A special commendation belongs to Joseph Rojas, who, in his debut 5K race, achieved an incredible 6th place finish in 19:23.
The season’s journey continues! The Senior Boys, along with Sally Perez and Liyah Young, have punched their tickets and will carry the Billies' banner to the Arkansas State XC Meet on November 6th in Hot Springs.
